Why We Don’t Use Parabens

Parabens are used as preservatives in a vast amount of cosmetic products and have been used in so many products for the last several decades. Paraben’s job is to make sure formulas don’t go rancid and/or grow mold or other unintended bacteria. Although chemists love parabens because they are one of the best preservative factors, there may be a link to hormone disruption and abnormalities. We aren’t willing to take any chances!

Why We Don’t Use Sulfates

Also known as Sodium lauryl sulfate, Sodium laureth sulfate, or SLS, is a chemical commonly found in skincare products like:ike:

  • Shampoos
  • Conditioners
  • Bar soap
  • Bubble bath
  • Cleansers
  • Even toothpaste!

Sulfates are a chemical used to create foam (think sudsy bubbles!). Sulfates are a known skin irritant and can be especially irritating for anyone who with eczema, dry skin, or sensitive skin. Using products that contain sulfates may cause dry and itchy skin, flare up eczema, and even interfere with acne. If you don’t have sensitive skin then sulfates likely won’t have any negative side effects to your skin.

Why We Don’t Use Phthalate

Phthalate is a chemical used as a solvent in cosmetics and other consumer products, especially in the medical world (IV bags and other medical devices made from PVC). According to animal studies (that we did not do!), it appears a high exposure to phthalates may damage the liver, kidneys, lungs, and reproductive system — particularly the developing testes.
