Who is PREP Your Skin?

We get asked this a lot! If you shop at Target (and I mean, who doesn’t?), there is a good possibility that you’ve seen us around in the Specialty Bath aisle. You’ve probably read on our packaging that our products are sulfate-free, paraben-free and phthalate-free. But, we are SO much more than that. 

At PREP Your Skin, we are daughters, sisters, moms, stepmoms, grandmas, pet lovers, friends, early risers, night owls, Joanna Gaines wanna-bes, beach bums, cooks, Door Dash orderers and everything in between. We are also passionate about being able to choose what types of products we use on ourselves and our loved ones.  

This is Kelly. Kelly started PREP Your Skin back in 2014 in Plano, Texas (Plano is a suburb of Dallas). You see, Kelly is a mom. And she has a daughter (and a son). And her daughter was on the verge of starting to wash her face and go to birthday parties where she was too grown up to bring a toy as a present and instead wanted to buy some cutesy bath product for her BFF. But as Kelly started looking at products, she quickly realized there weren’t many product options out there with good for you ingredients that were geared towards young skin. And what was out there were products with so many yucky and harmful ingredients that Kelly wouldn’t even want her worst enemy to use them (fortunately Kelly really doesn’t have a worst enemy). The light bulb went off in Kelly’s head, and that’s how PREP Your Skin was born – clean products that are safe for all ages to use and gift. 

Kelly originally thought PREP Your Skin would be a skincare company for girls, tweens and teens. She envisioned girls getting together for sleepovers and all of them getting out their PREP Your Skin face cleansers and eye cream and giving each other spa treatments. But that was one of Kelly’s first lessons as an entrepreneur. Sometimes your first idea and plan isn’t always the best idea. Or maybe it is the best idea, but the world just isn’t ready for it yet. Either way, Kelly learned to be flexible and adaptable and not get discouraged. Sometimes what you envision in your head can’t always be a reality, at least not yet. And with that lesson, PREP Your Skin version 2.0 was born. 

PREP’s first collaboration with Target was bath salts back in 2017! We filled test tubes with our brightly colored bath salts and packaged them in a modern box. The bright colors were attention-getting and made a sunny statement. There was an element of fun to it. It really was hard to resist, for yourself or as a present, when passing it in the Target aisle.  

Because we always have the next gift that we need to buy on our brain, we want to make sure that our products are high enough in quality that people feel confident giving them as a gift. We also strive for thoughtfully designed packaging so that both the gift giver and gift receiver feel good about the way it looks. And, price is of course of utmost importance. We want to make sure the price is modest enough that it fits in most gift-givers’ budgets. 

What started out as Kelly and a chemist has grown into a handful of innovators and designers, always on the hunt to see how we can make a product with safer ingredients, a better scent, cuter packaging and just flat out better products. 

It’s fun to stroll down memory lane and think about where we’ve come. We’ve come a long way from having a kiosk at Stonebriar Centre in Frisco, Texas right outside the Disney Store and Pottery Barn Kids.  It got even more exciting when we launched in Target stores nationwide followed by CVS, TJ Maxx,  and Stop and Shop, and Kroger. Never in our wildest dreams could have imagined that PREP Your Skin would be in all those places selling PREP Your Skin products ranging from bath salts to bath scrubs to body washes and bubble bath. We are so thankful for our customers who spread the PREP Your Skin love and told their families and friends about us. It’s very humbling. 

In this crazy busy world that we live in today, most of us rarely take time to do something for ourselves. If you are anything like us, you’re always worrying about everyone and everything else around you but never about yourself. Our goal is to change that both for you and us. At PREP Your Skin we believe that you deserve a beauty treat. Our high-quality bath and body products use simple and safe ingredients to make everyday beauty products and gift sets at a modest price. Our team works hard every single day to make sure each of the PREP Your Skin products smells great, feels luxurious and is a beautiful treat for you or for someone else. It’s our way of giving back to this crazy thing called life.
