Healthy Start

A diet rich in a variety of healthy fruits and vegetables is an important way to stay healthy. Fruits and vegetables are full of fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants which can help lower your risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancer and obesity. It is important to eat a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables every day to make sure you are getting all of the beneficial nutrients that these amazing foods provide! You should try to eat a rainbow of natural foods (Fruit Loops don’t count!!!) every day. A great way to start your day off right is by adding a serving or two of fruit and even vegetables to your breakfast. If you’re not a fan of most vegetables, it is easy to “hide” them in a smoothie, on a breakfast sandwich, or even in scrambled eggs. Here’s a healthy smoothie with added veggies that tastes great!

Ingredients

  • ½ cup pureed pumpkin
  • 1 medium apple
  • 1 handful of cranberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 tablespoon of ground flax seeds
  • ½ tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional sweetener)
  • ½ cup of your favorite milk (cow, almond, soy) or coconut water
Blend until mixed well, then throw in some ice and blend until smooth.
